He had hurt his foot but to what degree? I wasn't sure but the pain in his eyes was making me worry more and more by the min. I put him on the sofa and we looked at his foot and his leg. No swelling, no bruising must be a bad sprain, right? I mean it couldn't be broken could it?
He seemed to be comfortable on the sofa and was not in pain, I elevated his foot and we moved the party to him. The kids brought him toys and he seemed to be having fun and doing ok.
None of us adults thought it was broken because there was no swelling. He could move his foot side to side when we asked him to, he could move his toes, he must be ok... right?
The next morning he still could not stand on his foot, it was time, it was time to take him to the hospital and get it x-rayed. This was something more then just a bad bruise or sprain. He had been fine with the exception of when he tried to stand, it was too painful. Still no swelling or bruising. My concern level was going up at a rapid pace. I am always the over cautious mom and once again I thought I was over reacting a little but it was my baby boy and I wanted to make sure he was ok.
We dropped my daughter off at friends and off we went to the hospital on a snowy day. We arrived to a packed waiting room, with it being the holiday since New Year’s was over the weekend, nothing was open but the hospital.
We were prepared for the long wait, we had juice, snacks, toy cars, his new Leappad he got for Christmas and his Tag books. And a long wait it was! No fault of the hospital, it was just busy. After a few hours we made it over to fast track. We kept our little B smiling with playing games of peek a boo and whatever else we could think of. Our three year old had managed to get through the long day of almost 7 hours at the hospital.
The Dr. looked at his x-ray but didn't see the break he said they don't usually see fractures and he was pretty sure it was a fracture and that the cast needed to go on. He said he saw something in the foot but was not sure if the fracture was in the foot or leg due to the reaction when he touched B's leg.
The cast was put on and we could finally go home. My poor little B had to once again depend on mommy to get around.
Just in case you are wonndering he is my youngest and that is how he got the nick name little B. (he's not that little).
For a week I carried him everywhere then back to the hospital. More x-rays more confusion on if the foot was broken or not, and two more weeks in a cast.
Two weeks went by and trying to find the balance between a five year old girl feeling left out and a little jealous, and a 3 year old that is now once again dependant on mom. Did I mention that running a business through this was proving to be difficult as every time I sat down to work i heard those familiar words echo through the house ... "MAMA I NEED YOU!!" Not that I would have it any other way :)
Two more weeks and back to the hospital again. This time the cast was removed and more x-rays were taken. Again as the Dr. scratched his head I knew he still did not see a definite break. As once again he said, "I may never see it but I do believe it's broken" Our next step? Another cast, another two weeks then back to the hospital again.I am proud of my little man! It's not easy being three and having a cast. Watching the kids run and play and not being able to do so. He is finally walking with his cast and I have to say I don't know what I would have done without momstown. momstown has allowed him some fun and interaction while he is in a cast.
He still has a cast on his leg and in another week we will go back again and hopefully have it removed once and for all.
In the meatime his sister continues to be a great help to keep her little brother busy and with the help of momstown arts and crafts we are keeping our little B busy and not moving around too much.

Poor little guy! We had a break in this house last year and it is no fun just as you say! We bought a lot of board games!
